Regulus is that posh asshole that you hate but you love to hate. Or he's that posh asshole that you want to hate but you can't and you hate yourself for liking him a little. He's charming and funny and bright and sharp at every edge and definitely an asshole and doesn't realize just how easy he's had it his entire life. He's that guy that complains that he got his 500th pair of suede dress shoes damp when your only coat is full of holes and then doesn't get why you'd be annoyed with him. He doesn't do it on purpose, but it's still infuriating.

His prejudice against half-bloods and muggle-borns is all deeply ingrained and taught from a young age. He doesn't hate them necessarily but he finds them lesser, on a lower class tier than he is, fine doing lower-class jobs and fine living under a curfew (for their own safety, of course). Unlike some other Death Eaters he's not blase about death and murder, so he has that going for him - he is genuinely a bit softer than most of his comrades in that degree, but he still manages well enough with taking care of the mysterious disappearances.

He's perfectly capable of being fun to be around, though a lot of his humor is very biting. He's allergic to verbalizing commitment even though he does it in practice - being completely monogamous but refusing to call someone your actual boyfriend is the stupidest thing ever but here he is, Regulus Black, resident young man afraid of saying things out loud.

The Black Family is known for their adherence to the old ways, for their strict divide between blood purity "rankings," and for their opulent way of life. The coil of Dark Arts and curses rests around the ancestral home and all throughout it. Walburga and Orion are extremely strict and exacting with their children, giving them no leeway for misbehavior to the point of letting their sons get hurt by cursed objects in the home because it would teach them to not disregard orders to not touch them.

When one of their sons showed signs of rebellion they cracked down on both of them. While Sirius railed against the rules, Regulus bent so that he wouldn't break. He became exactly what they wanted him to be and slipped right into the role he was meant to play easily. It made him the perfect child, the perfect heir.

Regulus Black was born rich and Regulus Black will die rich. He grew up privileged and didn't even realize he was until later on in life. He was sorted into Slytherin and enjoyed every benefit that being a Pure-blood entails under the Riddle Administration. He played Quidditch, was a star seeker, and was apart of Horace Slughorn's "Slug Club," a prestigious group based on merit ... and social standing.

Regulus joined the Death Eaters before he even graduated, wanting to be a part of the growing administration himself. When he did graduate he grew even further apart from his estranged brother Sirius when he took up a Ministry job cataloging and keeping track of Muggleborn witches and wizards. It's a living even if it's not the section of the Ministry that's run by the Black family. He's trying to spread his wings a bit, to free himself from the shackles of the family name.

... Because he's not going to be able to produce an heir for them and that doesn't quite sit right with his parents. Somewhere along the line he shacked up with pub owner and fellow Death Eater Evan Rosier and he has no intention of ending that dalliance or stepping aside from it simply to produce a child. Let them get over their hatred of Sirius for five minutes to have him produce an heir. That said, he's young, works in Ministry, and just wants to try and live his life without other people mucking about in it.

• Occlumency: He was able to make sure that Tim Tom wasn't able to read his plans in canon, so he had to be able to hide them.
• Dueling: What with being a Death Eater, in canon verse I believe he had to be a good duelist. That said, I also believe that should carry over here.

• Patronus: He uses too much dark magic. He's not quite DEATH BY MAGGOT level, but he can't produce anything corporeal.
